چکیده

Schistosomiasis is a neglected tropical disease (NTD) caused by parasitic trematodes belonging to the Schistosoma genus. The mainstay of schistosomiasis control delivery single dose praziquantel (PZQ) through mass drug administration (MDA) programs. These programs have been successful in reducing prevalence and intensity infections. Due success MDA programs, has recently targeted for elimination as public health problem some endemic settings. new World Health Organization (WHO) treatment guidelines aim provide equitable access PZQ individuals above two years old areas. scale up may heighten selection pressures on parasites, which could lead emergence resistant schistosomes. reliance treat this magnitude worrying should resistance develop. Therefore, there need detect track schistosomes counteract threat WHO 2030 NTD roadmap targets. Until recently, studies hindered lack molecular markers associated with resistance. This review discusses recent significant advances understanding basis action S. mansoni proposes additional genetic determinants will also be analyzed context alternative factors that decrease efficacy within field settings, most recommended WHO.

Genetic analysis of praziquantel resistance in Schistosoma mansoni.

To determine the genetic basis of the resistance of Schistosoma mansoni to praziquantel (PZQ) and to understand whether the resistance is dominant or recessive trait, a schistosome cross was undertaken between a PZQ-susceptible and a PZQ-resistant isolate using infections of the single-sex cercariae which were identified by a direct W1-specific PCR technique. The resistances of F1 and F2 genera...

Praziquantel Treatment Decreases Schistosoma mansoni Genetic Diversity in Experimental Infections

BACKGROUND Schistosomiasis has a considerable impact on public health in many tropical and subtropical areas. In the new world, schistosomiasis is caused by the digenetic trematode Schistosoma mansoni. Chemotherapy is the main measure for controlling schistosomiasis, and the current drug of choice for treatment is praziquantel (PZQ). Although PZQ is efficient and safe, its repetitive large-scal...

A Schistosomiasis Model with Praziquantel Resistance

A compartmental model is established for schistosomiasis with praziquantel resistance. The model considers the impact of genetic resistance and drug treatment on the transmission of schistosomiasis. We calculate the basic reproductive number and discuss the existence and stability of disease-free equilibrium, boundary equilibrium, and coexistence equilibrium. Our analysis shows that regardless ...

Association of oxamniquine praziquantel and clonazepam in experimental Schistosomiasis mansoni.

The antischistosomal activity of clonazepam, when administered alone or in association with oxamniquine and praziquantel, was experimentally evaluated in mice infected with Schistosoma mansoni. The animals were treated 45 days post-infection with a single dose, by oral route, according to three treatment schedules: clonazepam 25 mg/kg and sacrificed 15 min, 1h or 4 h after treatment; clonazepam...

Oxamniquine, praziquantel and lovastatin association in the experimental Schistosomiasis mansoni.

The activity of lovastatin associated with oxamniquine or praziquantel against schistosomiasis mansoni was evaluated in mice infected with Schistosoma mansoni. Forty days after infection, mice were treated with lovastatin, 400 mg/kg for five consecutive days by oral route, and on the last day of this sequence with 50 mg/kg oxamniquine or with 200 mg/kg praziquantel, both by oral route, single d...
